A Rockin' Rehearsal Dinner

This was pretty much the most unique and awesome rehearsal dinner that we have ever helped with!! These snapshots were taken this past Friday in the Wine Room at the Ritz Carlton in Clayton. Our bride and groom, Lorraine and Venson, had a creative way to tie their first date (at a concert) to their rehearsal dinner--use a few of Venson's guitars from his collection and make them rotate on a bed of flowers! Easy enough!



Venson provided us with the rotating pedestals (and the guitars and stands, of course) and we went to work creating the look they wanted. We used 18" wreaths packed with red carnations and black magic roses to make a mound of red flowers for the guitars to "float" on. Then, we covered the top of the pedestal with a thick bed of rose petals. Take a look at the result!!

Notice the other guitars in the background. Each table was different and each guitar was later embellished by the groom with pictures of family and friends.







This was a truly unique and personalized event! An awesome party for an awesome couple!! We did the flowers the next day for the wedding, so stay tuned!!

Flowers for the Guys

We spend a lot of time talking all about the girls when it comes to weddings-- their dresses, their hair, their flowers. Here is a blog entirely dedicated to the guys and their flowers. (Even though, most of the time, their flowers match the girls' flowers!!) :)

Orchids make great flowers for guys. They aren't fussy and they come in lots of colors. This is a green mini cymbidium orchid.

Roses are a traditional flower for guys, even if the guys aren't traditional themselves!!




Single rose boutonnieres.






Mini calla lilies have also become popular for the men. They can be a masculine-shaped boutonniere.

This is a more natural-looking flower combo with green berries.








Here is a single rose with a freesia bloom added.

Another option for roses is to use spray roses. The grown-ups can have two spray rose blooms, and the ring bearer or junior groomsmen can have a single bloom.

As a general rule, the groom gets a boutonniere that distinguishes him from the rest of the guys. The other men in the wedding party often have the same flower, usually something from the and matches his bride women's bouquets. So, the moral of the story is-- it really IS all about the girls!!!

Hair Flowers

Hair flowers are an accessory that seems to be gaining in popularity once again. Lots of different flowers and colors are available depending on your wedding season. Here are a few ideas and examples of hair flowers we have done.

Orchids work very well for hair flowers. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and are very hardy for use all day long. (Cymbidium orchid bloom shown here.)

A single cymbidium orchid bloom makes a great flower for your hair. It's large bloom really makes a statement.





More traditional hair flowers include tea or spray roses. They can be used as single flowers......

.....or in a cluster of a few blooms.

Stephanotis are a great white flower to add to your hair. They are small, but are still very bridal.

Of course, there is always hair flowers for other wedding party members, including the always adorable flower girls. These little princesses had colorful head wreaths made of spray roses.

There are lots of different options for hair flowers. They can make a great addition to your hair style. A few simple flowers can be a fun addition at the reception or in place of your veil. Ask us for other suggestions at your flower consultation!!

What's Hot for Moms

Check out the new trend in Mother's flowers for weddings. Most Moms these days want flowers that will compliment their outfit and designate them as important without getting in the way of their mingling and celebrating. We suggest a small clutch of flowers that can be held while going down the aisle and then can be placed by their seat at the reception. Lots of Moms would prefer to hold flowers rather than wear them on their wrist or pin them on their expensive dresses. A few Moms have told us that they are glad to have something to do with their hands as they are escorted to their seats!! Here are a few examples that we have done.

Just a few green cymbidium orchids to hold....

This Mom has four mini callas and looped lily grass.

Red roses are a classic choice.

This picture shows a Mom's clutch bouquet in proportion to the bride and bridesmaid's flowers.

This Mom carried the same roses that were used in her daughter's bouquet.

When selecting flowers for YOUR Mom, consider giving them the option to carry a small clutch bouquet. It will be a pretty addition for your beautiful Mom on your special day.
