Vintage-Inspired Flowers at Randall Gallery

Elizabeth and Eric had a sweet November wedding. The flowers were very textural, but still soft and romantic. Photos by Amy Werner Photography.

Elizabeth's bouquet was very vintage in shape, color scheme and texture. Special details like the burlap stem wrap and lush greenery complimented the fall season of the wedding.

Randall Gallery was decorated in the same tones as the wedding flowers. More fall textures were added to the centerpieces to give the reception flowers a slightly more playful feel.

Organic Texture Wedding

Lindsey and Dave were married at Lindsey's family's home on a beautiful day this past September. Lindsey wanted a very natural and organic look to the entire day. Here are some highlights from Stevie Photography.

Lindsey's bridal and bridesmaids' bouquets were very organic. Lindsey carried a very loose cascade bouquet with lots of textural elements including succulents. The girls carried a rounded, more compact version with similar organic touches.

The ceremony and reception took place in the backyard. A decorated canopy framed the couple. Branches and lots of textural greenery and flowers were used as focal points.

The tented reception featured clusters of organic elements- branches, succulents and florals- on each guest table.

The weather cooperated and made a very memorable day for Lindsey and David. Best wishes to the couple!

Palladium Reception

Three different centerpieces were used in the space. One was a grouping of submerged flowers, one was a tall arrangement with branches, and the third was a mixture of purple hues and textures.

Sneak Peek of Overlook Farms Wedding

This was such a beautiful wedding! The ceremony and reception were both at a property in Clarksville called Overlook Farms. It had a beautiful spot for this outdoor ceremony, a cute restaurant and patio for the reception, and a great staff to work with! Here are just some snapshots we took during the set-up.

The ceremony site was on a large hill over looking the awesome fall landscape of the property.

These snapshots show a flower-scape that we created for a recent holiday party. Four rustic, wooden boxes filled with flowers lined the middle of the table. Smaller satellite vases were placed in between the boxes. Simply gorgeous!

These images are from a wedding we did in October- ceremony at First Unitarian Church in the Central West End and reception at Forest Park Golf Club. The lush textures and rich colors gave the event a warm feeling of autumn. (Photos by Donnell Probst Photography)

The bridal bouquet was a simple but lush bouquet of ivory garden roses and green hanging amaranthus.

The church was decorated with two tall cylinder vases topped with green moss balls.

At Forest Park Golf Club, the tables were decorated with high and low centerpieces. Warm, fall golds, oranges and greens brought more rich tones to the room.

10 Year Anniversary of Sisters

Ten years ago this month, Emily opened Sisters Flowers. It started as a small retail shop in Kirkwood and has grown into a design studio that we are all proud to be a part of. We had some challenging years in the beginning (starting out right after 9/11) but thanks to wedding vendor friends and our wonderful clients, Sisters Floral Design Studio is flourishing. To be able to conceptualize our designs and see them come to life is a blessing. We are thankful to work with so many awesome people on such special occasions.

To commemorate our tenth year, we've modernized our logo and we are more eager than ever to try new looks, styles and designs. Here's to ten more!

July Vows with Reception at Sunset Hills Country Club

Ashley and Michael enjoyed a beautiful wedding this summer. They were married at College Avenue Presbyterian Church in Alton and had their celebration at Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville. Here are some great images courtesy of Michelle Ross from Under Grace Photography.

Soft and detailed are two ways we would describe this bride's style. We designed a bouquet that would compliment and fulfill those two criteria.

Bright greens and pinks were used throughout the reception. We decorated tables with three different arrangements- our tall trees with hanging crystals and votives, a floating candle garden with a lush bed of petals, and colorful ball arrangements on top of a tall cylinder vase.

Reception at Lemp Mansion

Here are some snapshots from last weekend. We designed flowers for this reception at Lemp Mansion. The long guest tables were lined with flowers and two family tables had tall round arrangements on tall cylinders. Shades of pink flowers were used in several different applications throughout the venue.

Suzanne wanted brightly colored flowers for herself. We designed this bouquet of jewel-toned blooms that included roses, orchids and hydrangea.

These moss-covered initials hung on the doors at the ceremony and were used again at the reception.

The bright colors of the ceremony were carried through into the reception in the Zodiac Room.

Wedding Flower Fun!

Lisa and Matt had a beautiful ceremony in July. Lisa is a fun gal who picked a very vintage color scheme and really had fun with her flowers........in more ways than one!

Lisa chose an all pink peony bouquet with accents of white stephanotis and white hydrangea tucks.

The bridesmaids carried similar colors but with different flower types and textures.

"Let's Do the Math"- Bouquet Upgrades

There are occasions when a client will come in wanting a specific detail or flower added to their bridal bouquet but think they can't afford it because "those are really expensive, right?". Since that statement is really relative, let's go through a couple of bouquet upgrades and see just how affordable bouquet upgrades can be.

Three of our most common flower upgrades that our brides ask about are callas, orchids and garden roses. Here are a few stock photos of each type:

Garden roses are a variety of rose that open up in a nice, lush, petal-y showing. They are becoming very popular with a lot of brides that have romantic or vintage-styled weddings. They run about 3 times as much as a regular rose, sometimes more or less depending on the color.

This type of orchid, the cymbidium, comes in a variety of colors. They are one of the larger-bloomed types of orchids. They can cost about 2-3 times as much as a rose, but are that much larger than a rose as well.

Mini calla lilies are also becoming more popular as mixed bouquet flowers. The style shown here is more clean and contemporary, but they can be added to more lush, textural bouquets for another interesting element. They also exceed the price of a rose by 3 times, but really do come in some amazing colors.

All three of these flower options can get a little price-y if used alone in a bouquet. But as an upgrade to a mixed bouquet, none of them are too outrageous. Adding 5-6 large blooms of garden roses to a bouquet add about $65-85 in our St. Louis market. Accenting a bouquet with 6-7 cymbidium orchids blooms adds approximately $55-75. Including 10 stems of colored calla lilies will add about $125-150 to a design. All of these blooms can really become the focal point of the bouquet, even if they are outnumbered by other complimentary flowers. Your floral design team can make suggestions on how to incorporate your favorites---just don't be afraid to ask because you are sure they are too expensive.

Another non-flower way to upgrade your bouquet is with a beautiful stem wrap finish. The most common way to finish the stems on a hand-tied bouquet is to wrap them in satin or other fabric. Now, it's becoming more fashionable to make the wrap more elaborate and personal to the bride's own style. Sometimes, brooches or pins are added to a wrap. Full rhinestone or pearl wraps are also becoming popular. Other embellishments, like wire or antique lace, can also be used to add an extra special touch to any bouquet.

Fancy stem finishes can range in price depending on what the added element will be and if the client or the florist is providing the embellishment. A general range for our St. Louis market would be $20-75+ for a custom stem wrap finish. In the grand scheme of the whole wedding budget, this is an addition that can be well worth the cost for a customized and upgraded bouquet for the bride.

So many possibilities are available when designing bridal bouquets. If there is a flower or embellishment upgrade that you are interested in, always ask your flower design team. The addition of this unique element may not be as costly as you think and may be the key to making your bouquet just what you always wanted for your special day.

Coral and Pink

Coral and pink are two complimentary colors that we have been seeing more and more of lately. This bridal bouquet shows shades of light pink and coral blended together with lots of lush texture.

The bridesmaids' bouquets were all white with a coral ribbon accent for the stem wrap.

This is a fun color scheme to think about incorporating for your event.

Canopy/Chuppah at Graham Chapel

Centerpieces at the Four Seasons

These are just a few snapshots of the centerpieces we did for an event at the Four Seasons. There were three different designs and three different color schemes. Take a look:

The Green Table:

This tall black candelabra was topped with an all green arrangement. Three orchid satellites surrounded the base. These candelabras are a Sisters rental.

The Magenta Table:

Three vases of one type of flower each in all magenta filled this table. The black glassware and matching linens pulled all the tablescapes together.

The Blue Table:

This design had five black vases filled with single types of blue flowers. Each table design was spread out throughout the room.

Such a Sweet Family

The Bowman's are the nicest people you could ever meet. We were elated to do the flowers for their daughter Betsy's wedding in May. The Bowman's are connected to Sisters through more than just wedding flowers. Mrs. Bowman is an educator at Westminster Christian Academy where two of the Sisters staff, David and Jennifer, attended school. The bond between Betsy and her mom was so touching.

Betsy's bouquet was a lush mix of peonies, sterling roses, lavender stock and limonium filler.

Lilac and Sweet Pea in Summer!

No doubt the weather everywhere this year has been bizarre. The temperatures certainly affect the growing seasons of flowers in all parts of the world. The crazy weather has had some benefits, though. For example, a strange twist of fate made spring-time flowers available in June this year for one of our brides who really wanted sweet pea and lilacs. Second choice flowers were selected of course, but we ordered the spring blooms hoping for the best. When we found out that we could get them, we were so delighted! Here are some of our Sisters snapshots of the bouquets.

The lavender sweet pea is what really makes this bouquet unique.

The bridal bouquet was lush and gorgeous with it's purple lilac accents. So soft and feminine.

Sisters Flowers own Jennifer was so happy to take our bride the bouquet of her dreams. What a happy flower coincidence!

Shades of Purple for Graham Chapel

The bridesmaids' flowers reflected the shades of purple in Stephanie's bouquet with an added pop of deep pink.

Point of View and Coronado--David and Traci's Big Day!

We have been dying to share some of the awesome photos of David and Traci's wedding. If you are keeping up with our blogs-which we're certain you are-you know that our very own David wed his beautiful bride, Traci, in early July. Sisters Flowers was so thrilled to design and create the flowers for such an awesome day. Here are some of the many unbelievable photos taken by Burns Photography.

All the Sisters got to design first for the rehearsal dinner being held at Point of View. We wanted to create a more organic feel as a little nod to David. Here is what we came up with.

Green and orange were our two playful colors. The guest tables had a wooden box filled with textured plants and grasses. The box was surrounded by a wreath of packed orange roses and tucked in candles. The head table had the a round, green arrangement with tall taper candles surrounded by an orange rose wreath. We enjoyed coming up with special touches like a moss "D" and "T" for the bride and groom's chairs.

Then came the big day.........

Awwww.......the cute couple.

The Coronado was the setting for the wedding and reception. It is such an inspiring space when coming up with a design. The placecard table had a large wire urn filled with hydrangea and was topped off with white phalaenopsis orchids. It sat on a base of bright flowers packed into colorful rows.

Traci's bouquet was a cascade of all phalaenopsis orchids, lush and draping.

The ceremony looked like a romantic fairytale. The aisle was lined with candles and flowers. the canopy covering the vows was full of every type of white flower imaginable. Long crystals draped from the back of the canopy reflected all of the soft light in the room.

The reception was simply awesome. Every table was filled with vases of white flowers- orchids, peonies, hydrangea, roses......it was amazing.

The aisle flowers were used again on guest tables as centerpieces. Submerged flowers were alternated with candles and lush arrangements to give the aisle vases a whole new look for the second act.

It was such a delight to be a part of your day, Mr. and Mrs. Testrake! All the best to you!

Tropical Wedding at Norwood Hills Country Club

Memorial Day weekend, we had the pleasure of providing the flower designs for Katy and Craig's wedding. They had a vibrant, tropical color scheme with so many awesome details! Special thanks to Shayna from St. Louis Wedding Consultants for bringing together such a spectacular event.

Katy had two bouquets for her wedding day-- one we called the "going around town" bouquet and one very large cascade used only for the ceremony. Here are the shots of Katy with her "town" bouquet.

We loved these bridesmaids' bouquets! So much color to play off of the brightness of their dresses.

The ceremony had so many details--beautiful canopy of flowers, matching stationary and straw fans! The ceremony and reception were both held at Norwood Hills Country Club.

Here it is--the very large cascade we made for Katy. It was about 4 feet long and was filled with many different types of white orchids and tropical grasses. It was gorgeous and Katy carried it beautifully! Not an easy thing to do!

What a great friend to hold that large bouquet during the ceremony!

The reception had all the thought-out details of the ceremony........

Our wheat grass box was the perfect background for their placecards.

Two centerpieces decorated the guest tables. One was a low, very full cylinder of all the brightly colored tropical flowers.

The tall centerpieces were a leaf-wrapped cylinder with a tropical flower design towering on the top.

Exclusive Events and their wonderful troop did all the lighting, fabric draping and outdoor lounge areas. Hats off to them for a job well done!

The head table was decorated with low tropical arrangements, the bridesmaids' bouquets and the long cascading bridal bouquet from the ceremony.

This is an exceptional week at Sisters Flowers. Our very own David is marrying his bride, Traci, this Saturday. David has been a part of the Sisters team for a number of years. He has helped deliver, set-up and complete numerous weddings right along with us. We have been so fortunate to work next to you, David!

Now, we get the great joy and sincere honor of designing all of the beautiful flowers for David and Traci's wedding. We have been talking and planning for months to come up with a look that will "wow" this very special couple. This week, the studio has been buzzing with excitement. The flowers encompass our work area and we all have visions of orchids dancing in our heads.

It has been and will be a pleasure to be a part of this wedding. All of the staff at Sisters feel the same--what better way to give back to a fellow "Sister" than with flowers?!

Let's Do the Math- Aisle Petals

Aisle petals are a common last minute add-on in our business. Usually, clients see a pretty picture in a magazine of an aisle covered in petals or two very simple rows lining either side. Of course this seems like a reasonable addition to the flower order. How much can petals cost, right?

Let us shed a little light on pricing and estimating petals. We see lots of pictures of rose-petaled aisles- some simple, other with designs. Let's take an aisle like this one:

This aisle has a lush bed of petals lining it all the way down. This is a very common request by our brides and the price can vary greatly depending on the length of the aisle. Our estimation is that 6000 rose petals can give you a similar coverage for about 15-20 feet. Let's say you have a 40 foot aisle (which would need 80 feet of petal for both sides). Conservatively, you would need 24000 rose petals to achieve a similar look for both sides of the aisle. Starting to sound pricey, right?

Pricing the petals is a bit more difficult. Some florists can order boxes of petals from wholesalers that sell them at a reduced price. Sometimes colors can be limited or substituted. Other florists prefer to buy the roses and make the petals themselves. The least expensive way is usually the boxed petals. In our market, a box of 6000 petals can range anywhere from $200-225 and up. Of course this can fluxuate if a specific shade of a color is needed and would be considered a special order. So, using our estimations, a 40 foot aisle would cost about $800 to have petal coverage like the picture above.

Certainly, you can save a little if you don't have as many petals covering the aisle, but keep in mind, even half as many would still be a fair amount to consider as a last minute add-on. Some websites also sell rose petals, but think first! When you purchase them yourself, you will need a cool place to store them and you will need someone on the day of to be in charge of placing them. Most importantly, always check with your wedding florist before purchasing any fresh goods that are not from them.

Using your newly acquired math skills, take a look at the pictures below and "do the math" on these aisles!

If you are considering aisle petals, we hope to inform you enough that you can budget for the aisle of your dreams in the beginning instead of hoping you can afford it later.

Here's a sneak peek at a bouquet we did for a wedding this past weekend. The bride wanted this flowing orchid bouquet to almost touch the ground as she walked down the aisle. Our designer, Shahla, made that request a reality with about 5 different kinds of orchids and one very heavy bouquet!

When it was completed, this bouquet was approximately 4 feet long! Professional shots of the bride carrying it when we get them!!!

Prom at Lumen

We had the pleasure of designing flowers for a prom held a Lumen. We did some cluster centerpieces and some tall arrangements with up-lights. Here are our snapshots at the set-up.

The clusters included three vases all of one type of flower- blue delphinium, blue hydrangea and purple stock. The tall centerpieces were white birch branches with purple larkspur and makara orchids. The whole arrangement was up-lit with an LED disc.

Gomphrena as a Wedding Flower

These unique flowers are a very interesting addition to any arrangement. Gomphrena have globular blooms about the size of a quarter that grow in summer and early fall. They come in white, yellow, pink and purple and can be used in various ways for weddings. This is a picture of yellow gomphrena and callas in a bridesmaid's bouquet that we recently designed.

The gomphrena has a very interesting texture mixed with other flowers or alone. Here is an example of a gomphrena boutonniere. The pink blooms you see are smaller than the yellow ones in the bouquet above. When the blooms are smaller, a few can be used in a boutonniere. If the blooms are larger, we recommend one bloom for the men.

Just another suggestion for those who are looking for flowers that are a little out of the box!

So much to talk about, so little blog space! The royal wedding has come and gone. It was as beautiful as we all thought it would be. All around the world people watched to see Kate's dress, the Royal Family and, of course, the flowers!

This morning, flower designs by Sisters Flowers are being featured on Channel 5 in a segment about the big wedding live at Blushing Bride in Shiloh, IL. In case you won't see it live, here are some shots of the royal flower replicas we were asked to create.

Kate's bouquet was a small, tear-drop shaped bouquet of lily of the valley, Sweet William, hyacinth, and myrtle. Though it had a very understated look, it was a very intricate bouquet full of very delicate blooms.

In our replica, we used approximately 120 stems of lily of the valley, accented with stephanotis blooms and Italian ruscus with a similar shape to Kate's.

We also designed an American version that would be a little more cost effective, but still has the look and feel of the original. Our version has freesia, heather and Italian ruscus in the same tear-drop shape. (Refer to our previous blog segment "Let's Do the Math" on lily of the valley for info about pricing the blooms.)

It's fun to see what the upcoming trends in flowers will be based on social media and events. The Royal Wedding is the epitome of all these things. We had fun discussing, speculating and ultimately designing around this event.

Snowy Delivery to Forest Park Golf Club

We have had our share of unexpected weather here in St. Louis. Here are some winter-y shots of a wedding we delivered on March 26th. Strangely, the temperature a few days before this delivery was in the 70s and 80s. Take a look!

Here is our delivery van full of bright orange tulips. This reception was at Forest Park Golf Club and every table had vases of bright orange tulips. Thank goodness for the tulips! They served as a reminder that spring SHOULD be on the way!

Here are the walkways at the golf club. The freshly fallen snow really was pretty, even if it was unexpected.

Romantic, delicate and soft are all descriptions that we hear often from our brides when discussing their bouquets. Here is a bridal bouquet we designed that encompasses all three!

The ivory roses and white hydrangea tucks give this arrangement it's lush background. The white cymbidium orchids have a blush pink throat that perfectly accents the pink waxflower filler. We may be biased, but we think this bouquet takes the cake!

Lily of the Valley- Silk vs Fresh

About a week ago, we did a bridal bouquet that included fresh and silk lily of the valley. We thought it would be a good follow-up for our last "Do the Math" segment on lily of the valley (affectionately abbreviated as LOV).

This bride agreed on including silk LOV instead of fresh to save on cost. Here are some snapshots of the all white and ivory bouquet with the silk included.

As an added bonus, the bride's mother, who came from out of town, was able to bring some blooming LOV from her garden. Here is what the delicate blooms look like up close.

We were able to add the fresh LOV to the silk and here is the result.

As you can see, it's hard to distinguish which blooms are fresh and which are silk. Even though we saw the bouquet in person, it's still difficult for us to pick out which is which. There were approximately 10 silk stems and 10-15 fresh stems of LOV in this bouquet. If the bride had purchased all fresh LOV for this bouquet, it would have added about $200-300--just for the lily of the valley. As an all silk accent the cost would have been drastically less expensive-- approximately $30-40 for the LOV. Normally, we would only recommend silks as a last resort for flowers that are out of season, but silk lily of the valley is a viable option for brides who really love it.

Two of our new favorites- Stock and Dahlias

Two great textural flowers for bouquets are stock and dahlias. We LOVE to use them whenever we can. They both come in a variety of colors, making them easy to use with any most color schemes. Dahlias and stock really give an added interest to any bouquet because they are not typically thought of as traditional bouquet flowers.

First up: Stock

It has a strange name, but is a really versatile flower. We use it to bulk out a bouquet and give it some base. It is available all year round and has a sweet fragrance. It comes in purple, lavender, white, butter yellow, hot pink, and antique peach. Here are a couple of photos we pulled from the web of purple and white stock.

They are very full flowers that mimic the same texture as hydrangea. The following picture is of bridesmaids' bouquets that include hot pink stock. We did these arrangements in late spring/early summer and the colors really popped! The hot pink stock peeks out between the orange roses and dark pink filler.

Next up: Dahlias

These lush blooms are very interesting to work with. There are so many color varieties ranging from reds to oranges, shades of pinks and purples, yellows, and even whites and ivories. They are available most readily in late summer and fall, but have been known to pop up in early summer and as late as December. Again, dahlias are a great flower to give a bouquet some fullness and a unique texture quality. These dahlia photos show a wide variety of color and shape.

Dahlias are similar in size to gerber daisies, but are more round and full looking. Here is an example of how we used dahlias in a bridal bouquet. The burgundy blooms contrast in texture next to the roses, berries, sedum, and hydrangea, but the deep color blends well with it's surrounding flowers.

Just two suggestions when choosing wedding flowers. If you are looking for something a little more unusual to give your flowers a unique look, consider dahlias and/or stock. Both are cost effective and easy to incorporate!

"Let's Do the Math"- Lily of the Valley

There are very few icons as timeless as Grace Kelly. Her sophisticated style has been used in everything from fashion to flowers for decades. Her wedding photo from 1956 pretty much says it all. Today, brides try to emulate this same elegance and sophistication, right down to the bouquet Grace carried. This simple, white clutch was all lily of the valley. It's a small, dainty flower that blooms from about May to June, but can be ordered from world-wide growers all throughout the year. The sweet smelling, bell-shaped flowers are staggered on each stem. The stems measure about 4-6 inches in height. You may have seen it growing in your neighbor's yard or in the park.

You may have also seen it in the celebrity weddings of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and Elizabeth Hurley. Though their bouquets are very elegant and understated, we assure you, the price was not. Because these flowers are so delicate, they are difficult to ship and, as a result, are extremely expensive. To use them as an accent in a bouquet is expensive enough, but having a bouquet made entirely of lily of the valley is pricey. Here's how to "Do the Math."

This handful of lily of the valley is approximately 50 stems and maybe 6-8 inches in diameter. This small bunch would retail for about $775- 850 in our market. It would take roughly 50% more stems to make Grace Kelly's bridal clutch and 3-4 times as many stems to replicate the size of Elizabeth Hurley or Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's bouquets. Knowing these stats, take a look at the following examples of lily of the valley clutches. Try to invision how many $700 handfuls it would take to construct these bouquets.

After this exercise of "Let's Do the Math" you can see that a substantial amount of stems are needed to craft even a medium-sized clutch of lily of the valley. Therefore, in most respects, a substantial price tag goes with it. We do have brides that use this bloom as simply an accent in their bouquets if they love it and want it or if it is sentimental to them. This can cut the cost considerably. Another popular option is to use silk lily of the valley as an accent with other fresh cut flowers. The silk is very realistic and most people who see the bouquet would assume the silk is fresh because the other flowers in the bouquet are fresh. It's an option to consider.

We strive to keep our readers and clients informed. In this case, simple and dainty doesn't always come with the price tag to match. At least when it comes to lily of the valley, you now know how to "Do the Math."

Orange, Blue and White at Cathedral Basilica and Mahler Ballroom

This mid-March wedding brought some bright color to the late winter weather. Orange and white flowers were seen at the Cathedral and the blue was pulled in at the reception. The bridesmaids' bouquets were white mini callas, orange ranunculus, and Lily grass accents. The bridal bouquet was orange roses, white mini callas with lily grass and crystal accents. The couple was very traditional and wanted a bright, full bouquet to place at the Mary statue in the Cathedral. At Mahler Ballroom, tall and short centerpieces were used to bring interest to the room. Both arrangements featured the oranges and whites from the ceremony and incorporated white birch branches and crystals with a touch of blue.

"Let's Do the Math" - A New Sisters Blog Segment

Here's a fun yet informational segment that we have decided to include in our blog. Very often, brides bring in or email us their inspiration photos for their bouquets or centerpieces. These pictures are helpful in getting an idea of style, color, textures, etc. However, occasionally these photos from wedding websites or magazines can be counter-productive and/or misleading. This new segment will address these inspiration photos. We will attempt to "do the math" on pricing and other specific details of the photo to let you know if these inspirations are do-able for your event.

Our first inspiration picture for "Let's Do the Math" is one that we have seen several times in consultations. This picture of a very simple silver julep cup is somewhat deceiving. It appears to be a simple cluster of flowers tucked in the silver cup that could be used as a table decoration.

The reality is, this simple cup with flowers is about 8 inches tall and 5 inches wide, which is impossible to tell from the picture. It would be about the size you would see on a cocktail table. The julep cup is filled with a small flower called ranunculus. On average, ranunculus are the size of a quarter, but cost about the same as a rose. So, this picture of an 8 inch, simple cup with flowers would cost the equivalent of 15-20 roses in a vase or approximately $85-$110 in our market.

For perspective, here is a ranunculus boutonniere that we did recently for a wedding. In this picture you can easily see the size of an individual bloom.

So, knowing what we know now, let's do the math on these ranunculus centerpieces from Martha Stewart Weddings:

This beautiful, full arrangement of several kinds of ranunculus is shown on a dinner table. You can see in comparison to the dishes that this arrangement is not overly large. We can see approximately 40-45 blooms in this picture and we are only seeing one side of the arrangement. So, we can conservatively estimate 75-80 blooms for the whole arrangement, and upon adding the cost of a similar container, the total arrangement would run around $275-$325 in our market. Now, all that said, there are certainly ways to take this picture (and other pictures like it) as inspiration only and incorporate some ranunculus and other flowers to achieve the same look for less.

This placement of egg cups with ranunculus around some votive candles is really cute for a breakfast or brunch. Each cup contains 4 ranunculus on average for a total of approximately 84 stems. You know the drill and now you can "do the math!" :)

Winter Wedding at Renaissance Grand

Check out the fantastic Statler Room at the Renaissance.......this was our first event in this newly restored space that the hotel is now offering for events. This reception featured the Mother-of-the-Bride's mercury glass containers with all different arrangements of white and blue flowers.

We used different types of flowers in each arrangement to make this event reflect the winter theme- hydrangea, lilies, tulips, amaryllis, roses, stock, and mums.

Some of the guest tables were long tables with seating on both sides. We lined up vases of white tulips and alternated with tall goblets with floating candles.

Other guest tables were large rectangular tables with seating all the way around.

The completed room was breathtaking. All the elements complimented each other so well in this venue. We really enjoyed being a part of this wedding!

Wedding at Little Flower Church and St. Louis Zoo

Elizabeth and Neal had a bright and colorful summer wedding. Elizabeth picked bright colors accented with white for herself.

The bridesmaids carried all brightly colored flowers that really stood out against their yellow dresses.

These two tall altar arrangements decorated Little Flower Church.

The reception flowers were the same bright oranges, yellows, pinks and reds. The St. Louis Zoo was the perfect backdrop for these fun colors!

Two different centerpieces were used at the reception. The shorter more compact arrangements kept the flowers below the guests' line of sight. The tall arrangements put the flowers above the guests' heads. Lemons in all the vases was a nice fresh touch.

What a fun and festive wedding to have been a part of! We enjoyed the brightness of all the people and flowers throughout the day!

Crystal Tree at Chase Park Plaza

This version of our crystal tree included silver willow branches and light pink spray roses. We decorated them for the guest tables at a reception in the Zodiac room. These snapshots were taken during the day, but that evening, the candlelight was reflected off of the hanging crystals for a romantic softness in the room.

Vintage Photo Shoot at Union Station

At the end of February, we were asked by St. Louis Bride Magazine to provide an arrangement in "turn of the century" style for a photo shoot for their upcoming issue. This is how we interpreted our assignment. :) The shoot was held in the Grand Hall at Union Station and the flowers were used later that evening for the St. Louis Bride Magazine awards dinner.

We used a clear glass urn and built the arrangement on top. The flowers were types that would have been found in turn of the century gardens. All of the flowers were textured and loose, yet formal.

We hung pearl strands from the arrangement for another formal element. The satellites were silver julep cups of lamb's ear and brunea berry. We also used pedestal bowls with pink heather to support floating candles.

The linens were so ornate and intricate! Small pearl and crystal accents reflected the light of the candles so beautifully!

Bright Colors with Bobbi Brinkman Photography and Lacy Branch Events

Crystal and Drew had a bright wedding last fall. We worked closely with Lacy Branch Events on the colorful design. Here are some fabulous shots of the flowers courtesy of Bobbi Brinkman Photography.

Crystal's bouquet was a mix of bright greens, oranges, pinks and purples.

The bridesmaids each carried a solid-colored bouquet of mixed flowers to mimic the bright colors of the bridal bouquet.

The reception was held at Mad Art Gallery. All the colors from the personal flowers were used for the party in tall and short arrangements.

Touches of Blue

Stephanie was one of our brides last summer. She wanted a bouquet for herself with just very light hints of blue. Here is what we came up with......

We used white and ivory roses and hydrangea as the base of the bouquet. The subtle hints of blue came from blue hydrangea that was tucked throughout the white and ivory.

We were so pleased to help Stephanie with her wedding!!

All red roses are so classic, but can be given a unique spin with just a little touch. This bouquet had a wire collar for some added interest.

We feel like spring is in the air! That was the inspiration for this bouquet. With orchids, tulips, ranunculus and hydrangea, who wouldn't think spring looking at this grouping?!

Bright Bat Mitzvah at the Magic House

January was a cold month in St. Louis! Luckily, Sisters was able to help out with this bright, warm event at the always fun Magic House. We worked with a lovely family on their daughter's Bat Mitzvah on January 8th. Here are the wonderful photos courtesy of Josephine Havlak.

Decorations at the temple included mixed spring flowers in the event's colors- green, orange and hot pink.

For the party, we decorated all the guest tables with large vases of green hydrangea and tall willow sticks. We embellished the vases with wide bands of hot pink and orange ribbon and put rose petals in the same colors on the table around the vase.

We had fun taking a break from the winter "hum drum" with this colorful event!

Orchids, Crystals and Feathers with Ron Klein Photography

Brandi was one of our beautiful brides who wanted something a little different for her bouquets. She loved the idea of feathers incorporated with the flowers. Here is what we came up with for her.

Brandi's bouquet was a mix of white and ivory flowers that included orchids, crystals and white ostrich feathers around the edge.

The bridesmaids carried green hydrangea and orchids with red feather accents.

Orchids were carried through in the other personal flowers as well- shown here are boutonnieres and small bouquets for the moms to carry.

Looking through some photos from last year, we found this cute one of some of the Sisters Staff. This was the set-up team for ten.ten.ten - from left to right- Jennifer, Emily, Shelly and Chelsea. This was an unusual set-up for them because they got to STAY for the party that they help put together!! Fun was had by all!!

New Year's Day Wedding

The first day of this new year, we had the pleasure of helping out Lindsay and Luke for their wedding in Millstadt. Their ceremony and reception were held at their lovely church, Christian Assembly. Here are some snapshots of their winter white wedding.

Lindsay's bouquet was a mix of white and ivory flowers with pine cones added for a small winter accent.

We decorated the sanctuary with our canopy. We used fabric, white birch branches and white flowers to make a beautiful winter focal point around the bride and groom.

The aisle was lined with silver cups of winter white flowers and pine cones.

The sanctuary doors were flanked with two tall, all white arrangements with hanging crystals--a hint of the crystals to come at the reception.

The family tables at the reception had these tall arrangements of white birch and orchids with hanging crystals.

Long guest tables had fresh cedar, pine cones, vases of roses and candles trailing down the middle.

Bridal Show Bouquet

These snapshots are of one of the bouquets we took to the St. Louis Bride Magazine show at the Chase. It featured lilacs, mini callas and peonies with orchids and spray roses in a updated version of a traditional cascade. We wrapped the stems with pearl beads for an extra vintage touch. The bouquet had a lovely scent and showcased the soft textures of spring.

Elizabeth had a traditional cascade bouquet with winter greenery and crystals and the girls carried white amaryllis and cedar.

The bridesmaids' bouquets were a winter flower called amaryllis with cedar and holly to accent.

The traditional bridal bouquet was cascade style with roses, mini callas, dendrobium orchids, stephanotis, crystals and winter greens.

Bright Colors at Lumen

Sarah's bouquet was a mix of purples including callas, orchids, roses, and stock. It's linear and asymmetrical shape as very modern and sleek.

The reception at the Palladium used the same purple scheme from the ceremony.

This Looks Familiar!

Browsing through the pictures on Martha Stewart Weddings, we came across this one of a whimsical centerpiece using tea tins. We smiled to ourselves and pulled up a picture of our own! We did a very similar design last year for one of our brides who brought in her own decorated tea tins. Have a look!

This is an interesting twist to the popular clustered vase look for table centerpieces. No two tables were the same for sure! Martha might be on to something......

Curly Willow = Texture!

For this fall wedding, we worked with a bride who wanted a little something out of the ordinary. She loved texture but wanted to take it a step further. We included curly willow in the bouquets and boutonnieres for an added shot of interest.

The bridal bouquet included dahlias, berries, roses and willow.

The willow made a cute accent to the boys' flowers, too! It's amazing how versatile a branch can be!

Holiday Party at the Chase

As promised, pictures of the flowers for the holiday party and fundraiser for St. Vincent's Children's Home. As with the previous holiday party, this client also chose not to use traditional holiday colors. We did short arrangements of white tulips, purple stock, blue hydrangea and filler with winter greens for the small guest tables. The taller arrangements for the food stations included silver birch, green fuji mums, purple iris, blue delphinium and filler. We thought these colors looked great in the Starlight Room and still had a winter-y feel.

Non-Traditional Holiday Colors

This holiday party was last week at the Double Tree in Chesterfield. Sisters worked closely with our corporate client to design these centerpieces for the tables. We based the design on the client's holiday invitation that included bright orange, green, pink, blue and purple.

Small vases of all the colors decorated the cocktail tables.

Three different centerpieces were used on the guest tables........

Version one was a cluster of three vases of solid colors of flowers.

Version two was also a cluster of three vases, but incorporated fruit in one of the vases.

Version three was a short, lush arrangement of all the colors and flowers mixed together.

Stay tuned for pictures of another holiday party we are doing today at the Chase that is also using non-traditional colors for their decorations.

Bling, Sparkle & Disco Balls!

This event was for the celebration of Katie & Todd's wedding. Both the ceremony and reception were held at Ameristar Casino. The bride's shoes were the inspiration for the bling, mirrored vases and disco balls that were used at the reception. We enjoyed working closely with Lacy Branch Events on this wedding.

Tulips and Looped Grass

This fun piece was for a grand opening. We filled a large cylinder vase with willow branches and orange tulips and attached some tulips up in the branches. We tied grass loops all throughout for a very contemporary feel. This arrangement had a presence made a statement!!

Love Story of Amina & Phillip

It was a joy working with such a charismatic couple in love! Amina and Phillip were married Oct. 23 at Christ Church Cathedral and celebrated with a reception at the Four Seasons. We worked closely with Lacy Branch Events who coordinated the design for the day. These phenomenal shots of the event are by Bobbi Brinkman Photography.

At the reception, we decorated with three different arrangements for the guest tables-one submerged with orchids and floating candles, one sort and lush arrangement with hanging amaranthus, one tall with orchids and hanging crystals.

Heartfelt wishes to Amina and Phillip for a life full of happiness together!

Bright Ribbon Band

This arrangement is shown in our design studio. We love the ribbon detail and the wild look of the curly willow. It's a great example of using non-flower elements to bring color into an arrangement.
